Anchor Inn

HISTORY:

The Anchor Tintern dates from the twelfth century and is set in extensive grounds alongside the River Wye with the stunning backdrop of Tintern Abbey.
This historic inn, set in extensive grounds, dates back to the twelfth century and was originally a cider mill and grain store for the abbey itself.

Adjacent to the building is the Ferryman’s cottage and connected to this is the abbey’s water gate, a thirteenth century arch, which headed a slipway from which a ferry transported people and goods to England, the other side of the Wye.

An addition to these two buildings was constructed in the 19th century, now housing the kitchen, and in the 1950’s the café and function room were added to complete the complex.

HAUNTINGS:

One of the spirits here can be heard playing what sounds like a tin whistle, while the other takes the form of a white lady who searches the building for her missing son.
